L175 lost reverse

Houston, we have a problem. My L175 has lost reverse- all it will do is grind- I had a little luck if I held the shift lever really hard- but now just noise. I'm afraid I have a gear that has gone. Is there any adjustment of the shifter or other ideas? please!!!!!

You probably don't have a gear gone, although I would not recommend forcing or holding the lever to engage reverse for long... It sounds like your linkage needs adjustment. It might be bent. One of our M6800s has a really messed up gear linkage that is bent - replacement is (apparently - I'm not the mechanic) not a simple thing.
