OK, relax and stand-down Mods !

I know this a family-site, and haven't suddenly decided to get banned after all these years :)..... just a geek, looking for feedback.....

A buddy of mine (left-coast, BC, does remote work for weeks at a time) sent me the screenshot below, asking what I knew about that product.

I'd heard of the name, but know nothing about how it performs in the field. Told him so far, "aside from all the other normal RF reception issues, probably the toughest thing to get working consistently well is the hand-off between services".

Given the wide-range of places TBN'ers Live and Work, I wanted to post-up here to see if anybody has experience with this, Good, Bad, or otherwise....

There are no legitimate reviews for "L.O.V.E. Pod Satellite Internet" because it appears to be a scam, not a real satellite internet service. Skeptics on forums suggest it's likely a 4G hotspot marketed with misleading information about satellites, and that the "scam" is designed to take advantage of people. Legitimate satellite internet providers are well-known companies like Starlink, Hughesnet, and Viasat, not a product called "L.O.V.E. Pod".

Why "L.O.V.E. Pod" is likely not a real service:
  • Lack of clarity: The company's website lacks clear information on how it actually provides internet connectivity, which raises suspicion.
  • Misleading claims: Forum users believe it's essentially a 4G hotspot and that the satellite claim is false, making it potentially a scam.
  • Unclear technology: The explanation of a "mesh" network where people share a connection is also considered a potential red flag.

The tech specs show 4G, 3G, and 2G communication protocols. Starlink does 4G cell phone calls for T-Mobile phones. It would probably only work as a sat phone if you put a T-Mobile SIM card in it, there is a slot for that.

Thanks guys !

Wasn't sure how long this had been around, so didn't know if these were roaming around in the wild much.

I'll suggest he steer clear. I need to have a live-chat with him, to see exactly what he wants to use it for. Remote streaming, I'll likely point him towards Starlink.

(I've pointed him @ meshtastic.org, if mesh networks are what he's interested in. Low-cost, relatively mature tech - not exactly consumer-proof, but close enough today.).
