L 130 Kohler 23 HP surging

Engine surges unless choke is almost fully on. Seems to run a little better under load..maybe. Changed fuel filter and pulled carb bowl and cleaned it. Jet from bowl to carb is clear. Any suggestions?

Twiddle the high speed jet and then set it about 1/4 turn out or so and see if things change? (DON"T loose track of where it's set now!)

If so, "exercise" the needle, there may be some "varnish" that needs to be jostled and cleared.

Happens on the Bolens from time to time (23 hp K series Kohler) I have not had to remove the carb yet ;-)

High speed jet is closest to the engine.

I use SeaFoam in my fuel for the first run of the season and it solves a lot of problems I had with my L130.

I had a similar problem. Took the carb off three times to clean it before I got it clean enough. When cleaning, run small wires through the jets and openings followed by carb cleaner and, then, air. Mine has been fine now for two years after I got it cleaned right.
