Any-one looking to do this mod(I am) I found the perfect springs at Lowe's.3/4in x 2-3/16ths.Hardware section,only a couple bucks.

I was a bit disappointed in their response. But, I understand it. Total lawyer talk. Someone might break a finger nail because of that spring and try to sue Kubota. They just washed their hands of it. I'm sure they have their emailed response filed away somewhere along with the gazillion other non condoning responses.

Lawyers and cost benefit. I'm sure a cost benefit study would come down on the side of leaving them as is.

We have modified our 5740 and the 8540 is next as we run in brush.
