I just purchased a 2008 Kubota
L4400 from an individual. It only has about 130 hrs on it. It worked fine at the sellers house but when I got it home I have a few problems.
The Range or Shuttle shift lever sticks in high.
WHEN THERE IS A LOAD ON THE TRANSMISSION IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO SHIFT. GET THE TRACTOR INTO A CONDITION WHERE THERE IS ZERO PULLING, ZERO PUSHING TENSION, OPERATE THE CLUTCH AND IT SHOULD SHIFT.
THE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE IS UNDER THE TRACTOR. LINKAGE IS NOT ENCLOSED, ITS "OUT THERE." LINKAGE CAN BE BENT OR PACKED WITH LEAVES/TWIGS,DIRT. AFTER BLOCKING WHEELS, CRAWL UNDER, REMOVE DEBRIS AND LUBE LINKAGE.
When I try to start the engine I hear a "click" and all the dash lights go off like the battery is dead.
IT IS A GOOD SIGN YOU HAVE THE CLICK.
IT COULD BE DIRTY BATTERY CONTACTS, EASILY, AFTER FIVE YEARS. IT COULD BE LOOSE BATTERY TERMINAL(S). IT COULD BE A DEPLETED ORGINAL BATTERY AFTER FIVE YEARS, CHARGED UP JUST FOR THE SALE. DO YOU HAVE A BATTERY CHARGER? TRY CHARGING
AFTER CLEANING AND BATTERY CONTACTS WITH A WIRE BRUSH AND MAKING SURE BATTERY CLAMPS ARE TIGHT.
THERE ARE SEVERAL SENSITIVE INTERLOCKS ON YOUR TRACTOR. ONE RELATES TO PTO, LOCATED UNDER SEAT.
ANOTHER IS LINKED TO HST FORWARD/REVERSE PEDAL. IF EITHER INTERLOCK IS OUT OF ADJUSTMENT THE SOLENOID WILL CLICK BUT TRACTOR WILL NOT START.
I cannot figure out how to get the hood open. The Manual shows to twist the hood "mascot" and open the hood. When I twist the mascot the hood releases partly but will not raise more than a few inches.
THIS IS NO DIFFERENT FROM A DRAWER STUCK CLOSED IN THE KITCHEN. SEE WHAT IS DRAGGING AND PUSH OBSTACLE OUT OF THE WAY.
Tractors are complicated and work under high stress, sometimes. You need to be able to figure out basic malfunctions as they occur. New tractors have problems in the beginning too.
Post again if these suggestions do not solve the problems. The T-B-N community is here to help.
Consider taking your tracktor to the Kubota dealer for fluid changes, engine oil and hydraulic fluid, and a general going over. I would not run on five year old lubricants; old fluids are not lubricating to spec now. Such service could be $500.
