I was given this lawn tractor which is gas driven by my brother. He tells me that the engine start and runs well then the engine will die down to little or no power or even quits all togther. I have cleaned the carburetor, changed out the spark plugs, replaced the air filter and put non ethonal gas in the tank. First mowing with it resulted in the engine quitting twice. Seems to run good when not putting to much effort on the engine, going up hill mowing, etc.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

How about the fuel filter? Have you checked the fuel flow?

I have not changed out the fuel filter. Whenever the engines shuts down it starts right back up immediately. Right next to the carbuelator looks to be a fuel pump, I am assuming. It would seem if it is not functioning correctly and under load it is even less effective. I am thinking of looking into that.

Have you checked the spark at the plugs when it quits?
Sounds like maybe a bad coil, or maybe a pickup coil.
Brakes down with the heat.
