Kubota part # symbol meaning??

I知 replacing the big oil seal on top of the front axle case of my 1995 L2500DT. The instruction sheet with the seal says fits serial numbers ~ 61008. My serial number is - 54870.

So what the heck does ~ mean? I get > greater than | < less than. But what exactly does ~ mean?

The symbol means around. Hmmm. Deere will put a - after a serial to indicate greater than. IE 10000- means serials greater than that . -10000 means less than. Likely the same meaning.

Yeah, hmmm..... It’s a pretty good job to get at the seal and I hate to make a go at it only to find ~ means not happening this weekend. But there are no other valid part numbers for this thing. All older numbers have superseded to this apparently.

I'm going to go ahead and yank everything apart this weekend and hope ~ doesn't bite me in the rear!

If it makes you feel any better, the Messicks parts illustration drills down to the part number you have without any serial number breaks. Previous superceded part numbers do specify a serial number issue, but only advise to call prior to ordering. Those superceded numbers also are noted as not for sale, or something to that effect. That's how I read it anyway! I don't know about the ~ symbol.
