JT,
I looked at the same JD and Kubota... Liked the Kubota and bought one.. Very please with it so far and bought mine from Kalb eq. in Memphis back in late July...Good knowledge and good to work with...Could have saved a few $ dollars driving hourssss but it was not worth it to me....

Definitely buy it with the skid steer quick attach bucket! \

Also get an extra remote if you feel you might want a hydraulic rotation spout on a snow blower.

Nothing like a quick dismount loader to ease service work!

You will love a three range hydro!

ok I am getting down to just a few more models/choices.

I am looking at the JD 3038e and the Kubota L3700su
both with loaders and both industrial tires.(both are hydro trans)

but I am also kinda twisted, thinking about the trans set up.

gear or hydro?

I could do a similar model from each w/ gear.

I see some advantages of the hydro set up, however I know the cost of repairs are much higher, not counting the 1200-1600 up front cost also.

any help would be awesome!

thanks

JT

I always thot I would get a Kubota Tractor when the time came because I have a Kubota ZD-28 grasscutter and the Kubota dealer is the absolute best there is hands down. I have rented a JD eHydro several times, the last being an 8 hour job. The ease of the hydro pedals and the FEL and other control did it for me. It operated so smooth and easy I just couldn't go with the Kubota hydro rocker foot pedal and reaching out for the FEL control. On our family dairy farm (out of business since 1998) we had mostly JD tractors with a few others mixed in. I've driven about every kind of set up there is from hand clutch JD 2 cylinders to a 300 International UT where the foot clutch went straight down, my back still isn't right. To me the ergonomics are just as important as anything else. Kubs are cheaper but the resale value on the JD probably evens that out. They are both equally excellent tractors and you can't go wrong with either one. It will probably come down to price and distance from the dealer and how it fits you. This is my usual rant on Kub vs JD so to really answer you question IMO the hydro is the way to go.

I have 2 quotes both are w/ taxes and no down payment w/loader w/ ind tires w/fold rops w/ hydro

L3700su 19,269 (0% for 60m)

JD 30382 18,117(o% for 60m, or 3.9% for 72m)

I have not sat down and spoke to the bota dealer about the prices further, however JD has come down a couple K from when we started.

jd is a turbo motor kubota is not. do you like the twin pedals or the rocker pedal for the hydro jd 2 speed hydro kubota 3 speed kubota quick detach loader jd quick detach bucket in nc I got a l3700su with rear remote cruise control r4 tires skid steer quick detach bucket for $21682 including 1103 insurance 214 filing fees and 1465 taxes with 0% for 72 which would be 18900. skid steer was $500 cruise $200 rear remote $600 r4 tires added $400 so if you take those away I got the tractor and loader for around 17200 Randy

Where did you get that notion? Go to the service departments and price out replacement gear and HST units from each company. They are nearly identical. Labor costs are also essentially identical to R&R transmissions. Neither trans types are prone to failures. Now factor in that the gear trans will require several more clutches over it's life and your statement makes little sense to me. Don't forget that having a dealer replace a clutch & PP, is 1500-2000, one clutch and there goes your savings from getting a gear trans.

As to Deere vs Kubota-- what's your favorite color? Do like your tractors vine ripe or picked early? ;) They are both about the same in quality, reliability and features. My opinion is that Kubota is currently slightly better, but others have differing opinions. Some say dealer support is important, but these 2 brands need little from the dealer.

well actually my fav color is orange, but i like how the deere has the forward and reverse pedals set up vs the bota.

and i like how the deere is a turbo direct injection engine
vs a natural in-direct injection engine.
there may not be much difference, but it seems the deere would have drink less fuel with direct injection, and w/ a turbo -seems the engine would work less for the same power.

I am not saying that botas are bad on fuel, one would think the deere may sip fuel slower.

You're going to get an excellent tractor either way. Compared to what you're going to pay for them, any fuel savings from one or the other will be pennies... not enough to worry about. The HST pedal and brake arrangement is purely personal preference. I much prefer the Kubota setup... it's almost impossible to move in the wrong direction by mistake and the action becomes completely second nature with a little use... kind of like using an automatic after learning to drive on a stick shift. The 3 range transmission is definitely an advantage vs. 2 range. But don't over-analyze this too much... go with the one you like best, and please enjoy it safely!

I'm a Deere guy. But, a 3 range tranny would probably sway me to the Kubota. Worth way more than the pedal configuration differences. I don't know if it's true on this Deere, but on other models with only 2 ranges, there are plenty of complaints that low is too slow and high is too weak. Kinda like Goldylocks: the one in the middle is just right.
