Does anyone have experience using Rotella T in a Kubota MX5100? The manual seems to say that you shouldn't use it because one of the many Rotella T specs is CJ4. The manual, if I'm understanding it correctly, says that CJ4 oil shouldn't be used because it's intended for DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) engines. However, checking around with service people at various Kubota dealers, they all think it's okay to use. I can't get a Kubota Corporation service person to answer the phone so far to find out what they say and, if it shouldn't be used, what the risk is in using it. If anybody knows about using Rotella T in this particular engine, I'd appreciate hearing more.

It is fine to use it. Because your engine is not T4 you may want to shorten change interval but you will not hurt your engine. The oils are all backwards compatible.

Although many say it is fine it is a grade below the Kubota oil. Rotella is meant for over the road trucks which often are at low engine RPM's not continuous full or near full throttle use. Has a lower TBN number as well as sulfated ash is lower.

Is it okay to run it? As far as I'm concerned after the warrantee is off (so I don't have to worry about warrantee) you could put water in it and every repair shop will love you!

It is obvious that you aren't a fan of Shell products. Rotella T is just as good as any other oil of that class and advising a member that it will cause equipment breakdown it just plain wrong and saying that it is meant for over the road trucks needs some backup statement from Shell to go with your illogical rant. Why didn't you just go ahead and recommend your loved brand while at it.

I use Rotella T in four Diesel engines, including three kubota, with no problems. It is good oil

Thanks to those of you who gave serious answers to my question. I might continue to use Kubota oil, but my local dealer isn't carrying it anymore, the tractor is out of warranty and it's a long way to another dealer just to get oil. My concern was that this particular engine might be different than other Kubota engines and just wouldn't tolerate oil that included the CJ4 spec. I've used Rotella T in other, older diesel tractors and I know it's used in equipment by quite a few people, such as dirt contractors, etc.

You can use Rotella T with the same confidence as you have had with Kubota oil. All oils with that designation would be just fine and you will not damage your engine.
In an earlier post I mentioned T4 engines. I should have said Tier 4.
I have used Rotella t oil for over 20 years in everything from a gas auger engine to a 450+ hp tractor engine and truck engines. No problem. Many fleets use this oil.

I've been using Kubota oil, but Rotella is fine in Kubota engines.
