I have a 72" belly deck on my 2910. Both the original blades and the extra set I purchased from the dealer came with a blunt cutting edge. The dealer is not sure if they should be sharpened, or if they are that way to add longevity and prevent chipping. I have heard some of the J/D blades come with a flat spot on the cutting edge and they are supposed to be that way. Does anyone here know what should be done with these blades? Should they be sharpened or are they better left as shipped. They seem to cut just fine, but I don't want to damage the lawn if they are intended to be brought to a sharp edge before use. No one seems to have an answer for this up to now /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif. The owners manual is not at all clear on this matter either!

The blades I've looked at don't have a razor edge. They're still sharp though. As long as they're cutting without leaving ragged ends on the grass, the edge is fine. If you want a definitive answer call the Kubota corporate number in California at (310) 370-3370.

The times, I've called, I've always got a good response. You get to talk to the actual person who works in that area and not someone in customer service. That's one of the great things about Kubota, you can call them and get answers.

Great service. They answered on the first ring. The blades come ready to use, so I guess that answers the question.

No Steve, just too much to do as always. If I could be away from home less than twelve hours a day, I might be able to get some wiring done. Waiting on a reply from my backhoe man as to an estimate for the 400' of trench I will need for the URD cable.

I found this on the Canadian Kubota website a while back.

That is an interesting idea Mike. When I removed the OEM blades, I was surprised to see they were a bit wider than the Kubota replacement blades. The replacement parts are ground at a single angle, a bit sharper than the originals. The originals, being perhaps a quarter inch wider are ground at a lesser angle and then a second bevel is cut on the last eigth inch of the cutting edge at quite a sharp angle, almost opposite of what your attachment shows. On my machine, this edge did not hold up well and until I removed them from the machine last week, could not get a good look at them. I will sharpen to remove the second angle and return to a conventional blade, seems to work better.
