There is an "L" bracket at the top of the adjustable side leveling rod. This bracket is spring loaded and you have to lift it up to hand screw the rod to level an implement. Problem is you need one hand to hold it up leaving you with just one hand to turn the rod. Most times you need both hands to turn the rod, but this "L" bracket, when down acts like a lock nut, catching the handles on the adjustment rod. If this bracket indeed is supposed to act as a lock nut, is there something missing that is supposed to hold it in the up position? I can post a pic if needed.

Can you post a pic please General Lee and see if we can get it figured out....

A photo would be clarifying.

My adjustable rod sleeve looks like a square post hole driver with "D" handles on both sides. It simply pulls up and the rod is rotated from there - no "L" bracket in sight.

Then the square sleeve is let go and it locks on a couple of tabs at the bottom of the rod that locks it in. Well, they do have to be lined up.

Maybe yours is a newer model.

That's an adjustment to set the level or angle on your 3ph. Once set the L bracket is used to lock it in place.

Our B5100 is supposed to have one of those. It pivots up, so you can use it as a lever to turn the lift link adjuster. When adjustment is complete it pivots down and can be secured around the lift link (it snaps over it) to keep it from turning, as Charlie described.

most the times i do remember, i was to young to drive anything. but parents to helpers walking back up to the shed / house. complaining they do not want to walk the mile or 2 back, to the tractor. carrying some chain and wire. due to the turn buckle for either top link or side link came unscrewed. and fell off some were. and things were jammed up enough by the time they got stopped. that it would have been more time trying to unhook 3pt hitch implement vs just going to get something to repair. the top link or side link and get things back to the shed. were things could be looked over better.

that L bracket actually looks pretty neat to me. compared to what i have seen in the past. that were much hard to deal with. more so the ones were extra nuts were added on both ends of the turn buckle. and you needing multi wrenches to adjust things. to wire being ran multi time up and down the entire side link or top link, and through holes and through turnbuckle. to some dangling wire that hooked back on tractor and wrapped a few times around the turn buckle. other words that L bracket looks so much easier to deal with. even if it meant keeping some wire wrapped around the L bracket. so when you needed to make large adjustments you could wire the L bracket up and out of your way.

Thanks for the photo.

No M7040 that I've seen has that type of set up. Maybe if you purchased it used the previous owner switched it out with another tractor. You might post the photo in the general "Tractor Owning/Operating" forum and see what comes up.

All of the Kubotas that I have owned or seen have the extra nut to hold the rod adjustment or the mini-post hole digger previously described.

Since you have what you have then the idea of a wire, or even a bungee cord, to hold the bail out of the way sounds like a good one.

Or...you could just get a Top & Tilt and enjoy life. :D
