The shorty orange one in the middle of this picture?

I can describe what it does but I don't know what it's called and I want to make sure I'm using it right.

I have the shop/maintenance book but NOT the operators manual — LMK if anyone knows where to get that online? Willing to buy it, had to get the shop manual for like $50 on ebay.

Anyway, the lever is related to the engine RPM.
- as pictured, engine will not rev under load
- engaged in lower position, engine will rev higher

Simple as that? I'd like to know for sure. I tend to just keep it off when putzing around, but then I use this to get into a mulch pile without either needing to a. downshift, b. use 4wd, or c. step on diff lock, or d. a combination thereof.

I'm open to education on a better operating procedure.

Not sure the name, but it is used for 3 point hitch ground engagement control. It senses compression on the top link and makes adjustment to lift arm position in response. The lever sets sensitivity and intensity of response.

OOPS. Wrong lever. I think economy setting for the little one

It's not for draft control. It's links the throttle to the hst pedal.

that short lever is your AUTO THROTTLE ADVANCE (ATA)

When you push the AUTO THROTTLE ADVANCE lever forward to the On position it should stay there. KIubota says to take your foot off the foot HST control before doing moving the ATA lever.

I assume you know that when you push the HST pedal with your foot, what you are really doing is changing the internal gearing of the HST drive.

So with ATA ON, now when you push your HST foot pedal to tell the HST that you want a higher gear ratio, the thottle automatically ncreases the engine revs to match the higher HST gearing.
It works like an automatic load control. I recommend you push it forward to ON and leave it there.

Kubotas that have basic 2 and 3 seed HST transmissions don't have so many optional transmission settings, but the M59 has a the six speed "HST Plus" type transmission that you can set up in several different ways - in all of which the Kubota is trying to get the tractor to second guess you and be helpful...I suggest that you start by seting the transmission controls up to where you are more in control.

Here is how to set your HST Plus up fo easy manual control....BTW, this is what I use. Refinements can come come later. The refinements all let the tractor override your choice of gearing....but I find that manual is more intuitive for my tractorig.

Firstly, see that HST RESPONSE dial? Yours is set to "FAST" engagement. That is hard on the HST and makes the tractor jerky in response to the HST foot pedal. So set it to midrange or slower. It doesn't make much of a difference in how you use the tractor anyway unless you are a
"tractor cowboy" and prefer to jerk it around.

Next, with the tractor turned on, wipe some mud off of the button to the right of the AUTO THROTTLE ADVANCE and push down on that button a few times. It will cycle through three positions that light up on the right hand side of the side display. These are Stall Guard, Auto H-DS, and nothing at all - the last of which is actually full manual control. That last one is the selection you want....youu want the nothing at all i.e. a blank screen. You are telling the tractor you want to be in control.

So select slow response, manual control, Auto Throttle Advance to ON (forward). And now you can select use the left hand steering wheel stalk to give you slow or fast gear ratios in each of the Low/Medium/High basic HST range selections.

The rest can wait.
Enjoy,
rScotty
