Kubota M5500 replacing fork that works the pto

Our fork that works the pto needs replaced but we cannot seem to remove the fork from the rod. The rod, part #36200-80450, is too long to move all the way back to slide off the old fork. Does the rod somehow come in 2 pieces? Thanks in advance!
