I have a 2007 Kubtoa M5040 that I can't get to shift into neutral. I called the service department and they say that it is posible taht the clutch is rusted. It only sat for 4 weeks and I used it all sumer with no prolblems. I guessing something could be frozen as it is sitting out in the cold.

I bought the tractor this spring and with only 100 hours on it. The service department says that since it wasn't used much befor I bought it there could be rusted plates.

I have salamander heater blowing on it now. Any ideas?

Do you have any way of rocking it?

It's pretty heavy - I could hook my pickup to it I guess. Are you thinking that rocking it would lossen it?

the thinking in rocking it that it might be in a bind.an rocking might free it up.but it does sound like the clutch plates are froze up.

Thanks for your input guys. I jsut wnet out and after the heatr had been blowing on it for about and hour and a half with a tarp over it it shifted right into neutral and it started right up.

Thanks again,

Roger

Good to hear.

I won't tell you how I use to free up a stuck clutch, but I am sure the mechanics out there can steer you in the right direction if this happens again.

Is it that the clutch wouldn't release - or that the trans wouldn't shift out of gear? One would point to a stuck clutch, but the other could be some water in the gearbox that freezes.

I have an MX 5000. The owner's manual states that if left unused for a while the clutch should be depressed and a 1" spacer put between the clutch pedal and the upper stop mount of the pedal to hold the clutch plates apart. They also suggest draining the clutch casing of any water by pushing up on the split pins at the bottom of the clutch housing under the tractor. Hope this helps.

It is disappointing to hear such poor design :(

Roger-I had the same problem on my M5040. It's the transmission cable, water gets into the sheathing and freezes. Putting a tarp over the tractor with a salamander heater will thaw it out enough to get it into neutral and running.

The last time it happened to me it was 20 below and I was pissed. I called the dealer and they flatbedded it and fixed it under warranty. I'm not sure what the fix was, but it hasn't happened since.

Hope this helps...
