Problem started with trying to start the tractor recently.
First I found the battery was bad so I bought a new battery. Then I discovered rats had chewed up the headlight wiring and who knows what else.
But first things first I was determined to start the tractor. With the new battery installed, I still got a no start from the starter switch.
I then installed a jumper trigger switch wire from the battery cable wire on the solenoid to the starter connector on the solenoid. ( I disconnected the positive wire that feeds the tractor electrical from the solenoid to the starter switch. Got a click, and then all went dead. No dash lights, nothing.
Checked all connections including wiring behind dash and found nothing. I then thought the starter relay was bad, but did not get around to testing relay. After a while with original battery cables reconnected, the dash lights would come back on when turning the key to on. As soon as I hit start on the starter switch, I would hear a click and a repeat of the click and systems of nothing would return.

To cut to the chase, the problem ended up being bad battery cables. I replaced both and all worked as it was supposed to.
The cables were not allowing enough amps get to the tractor components.
I did have to rewire the headlights.
