Do as Turf Care indicated - have a friend inquire/offer and be the "strawman" in this case and approach this rather unhappy seller - that way you can determine if you want to engage him again or walk away.

Also, the seller is going thru a tough time and doesn't want to sell but is forced to, and that would make me unhappy too, but its business.

Finally have the $ available and not waiting on a loan etc. as the seller needs to get it done, and doesn't likely care about the buyer's issue / cash loan etc.

Regarding changing tires from one type to another, it usually involves changing both tires and RIMs, and that can add up. It's a much bigger tractor, but I have been looking at Deere 5 and 6 series tractors, some of which would need different tires, and it would cost in the neighborhood of $20k ($5k per wheel) to switch. The fronts are less than the rears, but that's how it averages out. On the tractors you are looking at, I wouldn't be surprised if it's in the $2k to $3k range per wheel. With a little research you can get all the part numbers and pricing in advance to know what you are up against.
