Kubota L5030 2004
Hi,
I have a Kubota L5030 leaking oil from right behind the front axle case. The front pinion/bevel gear area if I've done my research correctly. Is it just a seal that needs to be replaced? How involved is that repair?

Thanks

I'm no authority on that particular tractor, but having done that same repair on plenty of others I'd say it's PROBABLY a pretty straight forward project. Yes, just a seal that comes out the front. However, if I were doing it, before ordering the seal I would crawl under and try shaking the shaft a little before getting too comfortable. Make sure there is NO lateral movement in the splined shaft. No side to side, up and down, in and out type movement you can detect when trying to force the end of the shaft in any direction. The shaft should be pretty solid in that regard. It should rotate freely, yes but ANY movement in any direction indicates more than just a seal in play.

Harry I totally second that statement. The term just a seal is most of the time misleading. Most of the time complete disassembly is in order even if only the seal is leaking. And on some of my stuff if it ain’t real bad I’ll keep check on it and keep on using it.

My L5030HSTC was leaking at front seal. Kubota dealer removed cab and took tractor apart to replace the seal. The seal was only a few dollars. Not sure what the labor was because they also replaced my air compressor. The total bill was about 4,000$. Work was done in 2023.

Why do I get the feeling we're talking about two different front seals?

Well Harry, you did qualify that you were no authority on that particular tractor.

I think you're missing the point entirely. Maybe I'm wrong.
I’m kidding Harry. I feel the same way. I saw where you made that statement and thought I would make a little funny. I hope you ain’t irritated to bad)

On my L4060 I recall reading something about that seal (?) getting damaged by greasing the front axle pivot without first removing the square head plug. Don't know if the 30 series has the same plug to remove though.
