Some of the Grands seem to have issues with seals on the front axle or tranny, but that's not to bad. A pain (or a grand or 2) to split the tractor for some of the tranny seals, but not the end of the world. Generally reliable machines.

I bought a used L4630 cab with GST with 2400 hrs on it and I put 800 more on in 4 years before selling it.
Other than replacing a front wheel bearing, it was a reliable rig for snow plowing and wood hauling.
As it was my first tractor, I had nothing to compare the trans to. The GST has a clutch [but it is not needed to shift] and a shuttle reverser. 12speed trans
My M6040 has geared trans which needs the clutch to shift gears and shuttle reverser w/8 speed hi/lo range
