Good day.

I started my L3940 and it idled just fine. When I tried to go forward or reverse I heard a click and then the engine died. Repeated several times but it still died. I have checked the air filter, changed the fuel filter, checked the cabin fuses without success. Any suggestions

thank you.

Seat switch bad or came unhooked. You can bypass it with a jumper wire.

Leejohn,

Just curious. I went out to my tractor, while sitting on the seat I tried to turn on the pto and the engine quit without my having to press the fuel pedal. Would that mean, like you said, that the seat plunger switch is bad.
thanks for responding.

You can not turn the pto on without being on the seat.

Its a safety switch of some sort killing the engine.
The click your hearing is the shut off solenoid disengaging.

Likely a bunch of switches are sending signals to a mini computer called an OPERATOR PRESENCE CONTROLLER.

It decides what you can and cannot do.

On my Kubota L5060 there are two switches under the seat. One switch located under the center of the seat detects pressure when the operator is seated and will kill the tractor and PTO if the operator stands up. (unseated). From your comment #4, that switch may be the culprit.

The other switch is a plunger type located under the side of the seat frame. That one is to keep the tractor and PTO running when the operator is off the tractor and the seat is in the raised position (tilted forward) when the PTO switch is then engaged.

Hi again,

I jumped both seat switches, the one on the bottom and the plunger type along the right side and it still does the same thing. When in idle and seated when I push the fuel pedal I hear a click on the engine quits.

By the way, thanks for all of your suggestions/

Try moving the pto lever on and off a few times. I had a little trouble with it not shutting off the pto .
