2017 kubota L3901 HST
Hey everyone, my 2015 L3901 is right about at 350 hours and I'm sure with all the side jobs I have planned along with work around my house that I'll be up to the 400 hour service by the end of summer or mid fall at very least. One question I have though, from looking through my kubota manual it says to use either 10w30 or 15w40 engine oil? Does it matter which and what brand of oil is everyone using?

Personally I use Delo 400 15W-40 oil. I'd like to run 5W-40 full synthetic, but I am too cheap and the Delo seems like a good compromise.

If the manual specs either oil, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Pick a high quality oil in whichever viscosity you prefer.

Just to confirm... you should be changing the engine oil every 100 hours and the hydraulic fluid at 400 hours. Have you changed the engine oil a few times already???

PS. I use Shell Rotella T 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil...

The Service Intervals in the Operator's Manual has engine oil changes at 50 hours, and then 400 hours and then every 400 hours after that. I see no reason to change the oil more than what the manufacture sets other than to waste oil.

Yes, owners manual says 50 hours, 400 hours and every 400 after that. First 50 hour service I had done by the dealer. I asked because I'm considering doing the 400 hour service myself.

Regardless of hours, my tractors both get annual oil changes. Going longer than that seems like an invitation for moisture to build up. Just my two cents.

Kubota factory fill is 10W30.
For northern climates like ours,10W30 conventional is my preference.
Shell Rotella T4 10W30 is the most recent product.
The dealer will also have 10W30 available.
Or go full synthetic 5W40-many great brands out there.
Good Luck!

Not questioning what your manual say (I am very surprised!!) but here is kubota's website and I see they have backed off from every 100 hours...

I would only try that with full synthetic oil... Actually, that would have meant that I would have only changed the oil 2 in the 12 years I've had mine... No thanks, I'll change it every 100 hours. (maybe the clocks have changed from RPM based to straight time?)

Here is my manual (I change the filter every oil change):

I grabbed some Delo 15W-40 for my L185DT when I changed the oil at the start of the season. It specified straight 10, 20, or 30 weight based on general outside temps, or 10W-30. I was concerned the slightly thicker oil would cause problems, but it's been running strong for 13 hours so it must be alright.

I think a couple of years is the maximum regardless of hours (for me). I put about 80 hours per year on my tractors, so I do a service around every 75-100 hours. If you are putting on 400 hours per year, I think that oil change interval is fine. If you put on 80 hours per year like me, I would not run 5 years with the same oil.
