I have in mind building a toolbox for my L3400 and bolting it on the front where the bumper/weight rack would normally go. It would be about 12x12x40 and would function as toolbox, front-end weight, and bumper/brush pusher. Plan on using 2x treated lumber, internally reinforced with angle iron and a large, drilled steel plate. I would fill it with heavy stuff: drawbar, tools, chain, grease gun, spares. Any thoughts?

might be better to weld 1/4 plates into a box. You get a real weight on front and HD enough to stand to some abuse. If you are using PT wood I would assume it would last about 10 years or less unless you hit a immovable object with it.

I think John Deere makes similar boxes. It sounds like a good idea to me.

Can you devise a hitch receiver (or two), such that you can install/remove the box at will ??
