kubota L3400
Hi all. New to this site. I'm looking to add rear hydraulics to my L3400 to run a 3 point wood splitter. Can anyone point me in the right direction to make this happen? Thanks in advance.

Log splitter run off tractor hydraulics is Painfully slow. Not to mention the extra hours on the tractor and fuel use...

I'd much rather have a stand alone splitter.

Painfully slow huh. Maybe I should rethink this. Anyway to speed it up? Thanks for all the responses.

The only way to "speed it up" is reduce the size (cross sectional area) of the hydraulic cylinder, reduce the length of the piston or increase flow rate of the pump.

If you reduce the size of the cylinder, you make the cycle time faster but you reduce the force the piston will exert. If you make the cylinder too short, you wont be able to split the size of wood you need to. Increasing the flow rate of the pump could be expensive and problamatic.

If you allready have the splitter and and are dead set to use it then you might want to think about adding a PTO pump around 11 gpm. Then of course you will also need a hydraulic tank, filter, hoses etc. That would set you back at least $600.00 bucks,,, or more. This might not be the way to go for you, depends on what you have in mind. My stand alone splitter has a 4hp honda engine and will run 4-1/2 hrs on a tank of fuel. I bought the splitter about 10 years ago and think I spent around $500.00 for it. Keep us posted.
