I got this used tractor and the 10A fuse for the regulator was already blown in it. the regulator and the alternator seems fine, I think the fault is in the wiring harness. I will inspect the alternator later, right now I'm just focused on the wiring harness.

I looked down and I see a mess of wires that was already like this when I got it.

What do you guys think I should do about this, repair it or replace the wiring harness?

take a look at it and let me know what you think, I do have a wiring diagram, I know what I am looking at but can you tell me anything you know already?..how bad does this look? it's missing the fusible link, and all the plastic wire connector blocks are replaced with butt connectors and the splice is in bad shape..

I could not find any wiring harnesses for this tractor online could anybody help me with that?

the wiring harness is in two halves, I would like to replace only the front half harness, more than I would like to repair it. The other half I think is okay.

I would just get some good heat shrink butt splice connectors and clean the wires thoroughly before shrinking. Put it all in some loom material.

Looks like there has been a previous short which has melted some wires, personally I would just repair what is there. Check online at Messicks for your model, it appears some harnesses are available for $. YMMV

Correcting poorly-repaired wiring takes a lot of patience. New wiring harnesses for old tractors are usually not available. Fix what you have, one wire at a time, using common sense and the wiring diagram. In the end you'll have only needed to make a small number of repairs and you'll have the satisfaction of doing a better job than was there. On some early models the fusible link (main fuse) is a small exposed metal strip between two small insulated bolts on the panel behind the engine. They get rusty and fail - I rewired mine using a cheap 30-amp in-line fuse like these.

Gosh, I wish you lived near me... for the price of the supplies, I'd fix it for you.

I love fixing wiring harnesses on things.

Amusing not super related factoid... The CEO of a major manufacturer (I want yo say Kia, but can't find it with a quick google) recently indicated the wiring harnesses on their new cars cost more than the engines.

Let that sink in & consider the implications for newer cars & repairing them.
