Kubota L 3800D subframe question

Hello everyone, I have a kubota L3800 D & bought a used kubota backhoe 4590. Do I need a subframe for the backhoe? Or could i build one? Thanks

Most recommendations are to not use a 3 pt connection backhoe, but instead a 4 point, for which you could build your own frame. I think on a 3 pt connection, the weakest link is not the frame, but nothing hurt by reinforcing the frame of your tractor. I suggest a trip to a tractor dealer that has a 4 pt backhoe connected to the tractor. You'll be able then to see the value (or lack thereof) of beefing up the frame of your tractor.

Backhoe subframes attach to the back of the tractor & the front. 3pt hoes are notorious for snapping tractors successfully. Failure point is usually the transmission bell housing or the 3pt hitch mounting. Both expensive fixes if they don't total the machine. Manufacturers rarely permit any warranty claims for 3pt hoe related damafe & haven't sold any OEM ones for years.

That said many people use 3pt hoes for light work very sucessfully. I might consider a light 3pt hoe for a few light tasks if I found one cheap. Subframe hoe (or mini-ex or a real TBL) if I wanted to do actual work though.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it in to account. I'll go in and visit my local dealer here in Puebla, Mexico or maybe south Texas next time I'm there.

Chances of finding an OEM hoe for given machines are low. Finding a subframe is even less as a hoe might fit a number of machines, the subframe is even more machine specific. Published specs are going to be rare.

Generally you buy a hoe with the machine & they stay together. Not impossible to find separate, but rather rare.

I'd measure mine, if it'd do you any good. I think you'll find no tolerances of consequence - that is, you'll just take a flat length of 1/2" steel, cut to fit, and weld into place. I believe there will be no way to connect either the 3 point hitch, nor the backhoe, to the subframe.
