Looking for an used excavator, I want to avoid as much as possible emissions technology.
Could someone please explain kx 91-3, Kx 121-3, kx91-4, kx121-4 emissions technology as opposed to kx033.
I know kx040 has def so that is out.
Thank you

Off road engines up to 25hp, have no emission equipment. It still has to comply with the requirements.

25hp up to 75hp has DPF and EGR in some engines. No DEF.

75hp and above has all the above and DEF.

I had a KX121-3..Older unit but zero emissions .. No egr no DEF.. Thing was a beast. Id buy another one in a second if it was priced right and I was in the market.

Thank you
Unfortunately manufacturers often introduce emissions restrictions for machines with HP below specified levels. Eg kx040 has def.
As to kx121-3, was there much electronics for engine management?
Also with kx121-3 can user read error codes or is that dealer only?

I have a 121-3 and have never had an error code, so can’t say what’s needed to read them. But the engine is mechanical injection, not common rail, and not electronic. Its an excellent machine.
