Checking on a maybe silly idea but here goes...

I have three buildings on the property that I am looking to use "portable diesel generator". In order of priority, small house first, small guest house / well pump house second and then there's the workshop in last place. Each building has it's own meter and it's own main panel and these buildings are about 300' - 400' apart from each other.

I'd like to have transfer switches installed for a good portion of the circuits within each panel and deploy the generator via tractor, either using forks to set on concrete pad or via pto, to whichever building I'd like to have power from the generator during an outage.

How practical is it to fire up the tractor and forklift over a gen set onto a pad at any one building during an outage? By not going with a PTO gen I free up the tractor and it's quieter/enclosed, etc and my wife simply adding diesel and turning a key to get/continue power is ideal rather than connecting a PTO gen blah blah blah.

3-4 x the cost between these two units I am seeing online.

Pros and Cons of each scenario please...

the real question is how often do you lose power and how much of a pain in the *** is it for you to get on generator power, really only you can decide that.

This has been hashed out here on TBN before. You can search that one out.
PTO log splitters and gens have a place...... it just isn’t very popular.
Remember the tractor will need to maintain a specific RPM and the engine will be running above idle. The fuel consumption will be on the high end because of the engine size.

Lost power two or three times in last 9 months with the longest outage being about 12 hours so definitely not end of world here. I may just install the non-pto version at the small guest house / well pump building in a "semi-permanent" mentality and just hunker down there during outages.
