Buying Advice Kubota bx25 vs mahindra max 25

For what you've said about your present needs, and future plans, I'd take a HST over shuttle, or gear transmissions. Shifting just isn't what I care to do a lot of. It takes too much time. Also, the HST is less prone to problems. The MSRP for the HST is $14,310, tractor only. A difference of $1,000 over the shuttle. If you only kept the tractor for ten years, ask yourself if it will be worth, roughly 27 cents a day to own what you really want.

WOW!!! That was a great way to put his $ question in perspective.

Great post!

Now...where's my wife? I have a few $1000 items I "need"... And I want to present a proposal to her, using your perspective.

Thank you. :)

This is an old sales technique I learned while at the Dictaphone Corporation, back in 1971, or so. It is called, reducing to the ridiculous.

Thanks all, I have put in a call to the dealership but I think it was too late yesterday when I called. Your logic is sound, given that someone were financing, especially. My situation is that I'm not. So I need to consider this carefully. Monday they can let me know if the 30 day trial thing is a reality or not (but I think you're right- seems like I heard that somewhere as well). Incidentally, when they delivered it yesterday morning it was raining, and it continued to rain ALL DAY and I didn't get to so much as drive it in a circle, hahaha. Frustrating! As I write to you know I am eyeing it and am about to go give it a whirl!

Just don't get close to the 10 hour mark. The less u use it, the more pleased they would be to make a switch. The next customer would like that tractor to have less hours on it, and your dealer knows that... Pretend u r the next guy to get that tractor new, and treat it accordingly.

Mahindra website should reveal the 30 day trial as current or not. If u don't see it, u don't have to mention that in your call to the dealer. If u "assumed" the 30 day trial was in play at time of purchase, the dealer may feel like honoring your assumption....even if the promo is over.

Just some thoughts...

You know, all you HST guys, some people really prefer a shuttle transmission so let's be careful to not assume what we enjoy is the only good choice. I'm an HST convert at this point as well, but there is nothing at all wrong with a good manual transmission. They do give a little more power, use less fuel and you can run them at low rpm when you don't bneed the power. Plus they are cheaper.

That's true. But he posted originally suggesting it was his REGRET... All suggestions in responses, were to help him with his regret. Fortunately, he still has options. I recommended he ask u his questions, consider his options, even if he thinks he might keep the gear trans.

I did right by him, IMO.

I mean, what better recommendation is there, than to get davestractor's opinion???

I got u that time... :)

If you do decide to swap to a HST, regardless of whatever promotion Mahindra may be running (30 day trial or whatever) or not, most dealers will swap you out to another model if you do it right away. It is a hassle if they have already registered the sale with Mahindra as they have to undo that, nobody likes doing the paperwork for that. The system isn't designed to "undo" things very well. Just ask right away and don't put any/many hours on your machine. The dealer wants you to be happy.

Well, men, I decided to keep the shuttle shift and have been very happy. I just submitted my review on this site, which should be up whenever the moderators finish checking it over, I suppose. Thanks for all your earlier help!

What made up your mind? Glad your original choice was a good one. You thought you were regretting that... Can you walk us through to your final decision?

Another question: What size and type mowers are you (or any Max 28 owner) running?

I've just sold my "big" 37 HP tractor and all the equipment associated with it. I want to down-size and am considering the Max 28. I ran a six-foot rotary cutter and a seven-foot finish mower behind the old Kubota.

I'd like to go with a set of five footers if I buy the Max, but am somewhat concerned about how well the Max will spin these mowers.

You should find the MAX 28 will do fine with the 5" implements.

5' finish mower running fine on mine.

Max and Galen:

Thanks for that.

Ordinarily, I would not have been concerned, but I did see a dealer's ad online where he advertised a "combo" deal with a trailer, 28XL/loader, and various equipment including a four foot mower. Seemed odd to include a mower that size and wondered if there was some problem with handling anything bigger.

You are welcome. Happy tractoring. :D:thumbsup:

No problems at all with a 5' finishing mower on a 2516 which is similar to the Max 28 with less HP. I cut pretty tall grass at times. I have an area I cut every other time I cut the yard and no issues.

More likely the dealer was overstocked with 4' mowers. ;)

I ran a 6' Vrisimo flail behind a Max25 this summer and it handled it just fine, but we do mow that field fairly often so we are only cutting a few inches at a time of irrigated weeds/grass/bermuda. I would not recommend that combination for commercial tall grass mowing! We generally recommend 5' mowers on the Max series. Ironically, a lot of new buyers with no tractor experience will ask for 4' mowers if they are buying a rotary. Maybe because of tight areas, but mostly I think because the 5' rotary looks intimidating to them. We let the customer make that call.

I bought a Max25 in June. I was not even thinking of a SCUT/CUT/UT. I needed a small tractor mowing, snow removal, light landscaping projects and a large garden on my 11 acres. I looked at Kubotas,(BX was to small,B was on the large size.) I looked at Kioti, but dealer had a bad reputation. I looked at TYM but I was told by a dealer that had dropped the line that corporate support was not the best.
I took delivery end of June Max25/FEL/MMM,I had a broken ankle so did not get a lot of use out of it at first, but now have 30 hours on it,mostly mowing.
I replaced a cub cadet lawn tractor,a '49 ford 8N. The macine has performed every task that I have ask it to flawlessly.
The points that mostly tipped me in the right direction was the fact that I had 22hp on the PTO and the weight.
You guys can quibble over definitions all you want to, but as a large lot home owner this machine whatever anyone choses to call it fit my needs admirably. Is it perfect? No.I find the light switch to be poorly placed as I sometimes hit it with my knee while dismounting, and the fact that I have to remove the side panel to check oil is a bit of a pain.
At this early point I am a satisfied owner. Nothing else matters!
