I recently change the transmission fluid but I did not change the filter. I now have a filter. If I turn the tractor off and take the old filter off, will the transmission fluid leak out or not. If yes, how much. I was hoping that the majority of the fluid would be below the filter and therefore not leak out.

Thanks!

Go ahead and change the filter only, BUT do have a drain pan handy to catch about 1 pint of fluid from the filter when you spin it off. Just be sure that the tractor has run for a while to get the hydro fluid warmed up a bit. You should have no problems with the filter change.

By the way, WELCOME TO THE FORUM ! ! !

Some people will tell you to use a shop vac on the filler port to cut down on the loss of fluid when changing the filter or cleaning the screen by the rear wheel.

David,

That is REALLY not necessary as the only fluid loss will be what is in the filter when you spin it off. There is a check valve in the transaxle that keeps the fluid from running out. Like I said, when I changed mine I only lost about 1 pint of fluid.
