Wondering if anyone has a backhoe on their 1850. I see that kubota and woods both makes one to fit that horsepower of tractor, but didn't know if that horsepower of tractor would operate such a piece of equipment. My 1850 does a lot of things that I maybe didn't expect it to do, but this may be overkill. Appreciate any feed back

I have seen post about the woods on a BX1500

I've seen them on a BX1500 and BX1850. I have a BX2230 with a Woods BH on it. When compared the the BX1850, which I dug on for about an hour or so, I didn't notice much difference in what they would do. All the small tractors are more limited by the size of the tractor than by power in my view. I've dug up and out some pretty huge projects with the Woods BH on my BX. Its not perfect but its an amazing piece of equipment.

Thanks for the feedback. I am considering getting one now after what you guys have told me. I was somewhat skeptical before but didn't know of anyone who had used it.

Ditto, I have the Woods subframe mounted back hoe on a BX2330 and have not had any major problems with it. Appears the only limitation is the amount of down force depends on the weight of the tractor. The hoe will lift the tractor off the out riggers if the ground is hard enough. Wheel weights help and I'll probably fill the tires with something eventually. Don't be affraid to rev the engine up to get a higher hydraulic pressure to dig better.

I recall reading about a BX1850 with the same unit mounted and they had good results trenching around a house's foundation. I will note that I have been able to tread where larger units could not go such as under decks to dig out patio slab foundations and down narrow alleyways between houses to dig electrical trenches with minimal turf damage. Much less damage than a track hoe because as soon as they turn... the grass is toast. This was the perfect combination for me with 3 wooded acres to improve and a sand mound to mow. I can confidently side hill the tractor with the attachments off. It's very stable due to its compact size, wheel weights and heavy 60" mowing deck. Tree stumps take a while but it shure beats a shovel and pick axe!

The ROPS is shorter on the other BX Models than it is on the BX23 and 24.
This may cause issues with head room under the ROPS.

1* True; but I haven't found this to be much of a problem with my BX23.
2* & 3* With the BH mounted I find I don't need wheel weights or filled tires.
4* Unless Yer new to using a BH.

Another point or 2: The BH can drag the tractor right into the hole you're digging-so keep an eye on where your stabilizer are.
I always lower the stabilizer on the low side first and raise the upper stabilizer first.
