kubota backhoe on a yanmar

I had an older Kubota bh on yanmar 1700 before. But, that was an older one. My question has anyone attached a 98' or in the 90s, kubota bh on yanmar? I read somewhere, that a newer kubota won't fit spline, i don't know. Backhoe attachment is a 4672, 6.5' reach and self contain unit, pump runs off pto. I know the yanmar has a 6-spline and i think 1 3/8" dia. shaft. But i was just wondering if anyone has one fitted to their tractor. Thanx

That 4672A looks so close to a Yanmar model of the same 90's era. hmmmm

My neighbor with an 8N has a Yanmar version like that Kubota. He has this interface coupling to connect the PTO spline to the BH.

Would the YM1700 work better with a BH vs. the YM1720? Or does the YM1700 already have a sub-frame for a BH use?

I will be putting it on my, 83' 1720d, why i ask is this kinda deal hardly comes my way. And if the pto rotation and size matches my tractor, it's sold. O yeah, the he just texted said it was CW rotat.. I guess hyd. pumps aren't by-directional huh? ym1700 ccw (pto)

No Sir, And boy howdy do i feel like a fool. Had my wife, while she was out near tractor, to spin the pto. In order to dbl make sure it was a cw rotation. I had forgotten, it was in neutral / not engaged, so when she turned it(of course it'll go either way) with the override on shaft she said ccw. Hence, this dumb question (post). Anyways going tomorrow and hook it up, to make sure it performs as it should. And yes i have a sub-frame on this tractor, but not yet on the 1720d 83'. But it will in time, as this attachment will be perm. mounted to it, along with a fel.. Thanx for putting up with an old fart, that has CRS more than he'd like to admit, lol.

It last along time, i have had a diff. and heavier bh on it b4. Plus it has a sub-frame under tractor. So, i think i'll be ok, we sandy soil 12", then into clay here.

U betcha, lol. will post pix, when it stops raining. Need to get that pole barn started, not a big one(20x30) to put tractors and equip. under. Will have to wait til after they put stint in. Prolly this mid-summer hopefully. I hate having good/nice equip. and leave out covered w / tarp.

With about 200lbs in the fel, it rides pretty good at slow speed. One question, should the holes where i have the lifting arms attached to the uppers, in the correct hole ? It's in the upper hole now, is that for max weight or no? Like i said this is going on the 1720d, i believe like the other ones limit is around 1400lbs on lift. But i'm only using for small jobs in sandy soil and clay (about 12-18" dn), fairly level ground.

If it is the case where this thing is to big for this or the 1720d, that i have. One thing i don't want to do is screw up what i have, a bh, one does have options on. It is sorta heavy and i do worry about it, but not about getting money back on it, that's for sure. I don't believe those data.com sites on tractors much, only what i see and feel on my tractor, what it will and will not do. I do know that picking up some logs with my boom, only about 600 lbs. is the heaviest i have lifted with it. And that's w/some counter balance in the bucket. My land is pretty sandy soil and flat, so this my be, a little over kill for my needs. But i couldn't let it go from this area, before checking it out and deciding more on it. Hey, it's not eating nothing and it's paid for, or maybe for sale soon. Thanks again folks !

It's not the weight of the implement at all, it's the force imposed on the rear case from the digging and bucket action of the BH that imparts strain, especially on the upper 3 point mount. Years ago I had one just like the one you have and sold it. Exactly like it.

That upper steel arm that pins to the top link bracket allows the BH to exert tremendous force on the mount and the mount is directly connected to the axle case which is a thin wall casting.

All I can say is be careful, Never use the bucket to move the unit around, never set the stabilizer pads down to the point where they lift the back wheels off the ground and never curl the bucket against an immovable object like a root and try to break it free by curling the bucket and retracting the dipper stick.

All those things allow that top strut to impose unnatural strain on the top link and will crack the rear gearcase casting.

Know of a guy with a hoe like yours and mine that cracked his axle gearcase and it cost him 7 grand to have it replaced, an expensive lesson and why BH's are all direct frame mount now for the most part. With the frame mount ones, you take the lower lift arms off entirely and there are steel rails that run up the tractor frame rails that impart the load to the tractor frame and not the gearcase casting. With yours, the entire load force is on the upper mount, bearing down on the gearcase casting. It's not designed for that. It's designed for moderate pulling horizontally and the drawbar is for hard pulling. Good luck and be careful.

The 7 grand repair bill... Rips the upper mount right out of the gearcase casting. The rigid upper arm is a heck of a lever.

They don't work too well like that.

Kind of surprised, Kubota offset part of the cost the first time (had had a non frame mount Kubota hoe on his Kubota) but the second time he did it, they said nope.

Don't know what became of the unit, he might have sold it for all I know.

Looking at the lower lift arms on the OP's tractor, they aren't nearly as stout as the Kubota so I assume the upper mount isn't either.

The sub frame mount totally eliminates the upper link mount entirely.

Some people do use 3 pt backhoes over here, however the arms are a lot shorter and the backhoe is mounted using 5 points instead of 3. A really solid setup, yet, I would rather have a dedicated machine that can take a beating and keep going. Part of the reason why I built mine.

These 3 pt backhoe are cool as they have side shift too. They use two additional top links going to a couple welded tabs on the ROPS.

The main use of these backhoes ends up being ripping old vineyards out to replant with new vines.

I read in the manual, that there is a special plt / mount for the top link on Kubota's. It goes over the rear casting and bolts on under seat area etc.. Maybe someone can use this as a reference, for bh attachment warnings.

I just happen to have that weldment in my box of Kubota parts under the bench. I save everything.
