I'm looking at a Kubota B8200 HST 4x4 for $12,500 and I'm wondering if it's an ok deal. 452(6) on the hour meter and comes with front bucket, backhoe, and turf tires. The seller thinks it's manual steering. I'd use it on a 3 acre horse farm to move manure, level the fields, and try to level the back lot as it's a hill. Anything up to and including rebuilding engines doesn't worry me as I own a machine shop.

Good solid reliable tractor in design and manufacture. I'd say the price is good - especially with the low hours. Look carefully to see if the overall condition confirms the low hours. If so, you are not going to do better for that price range

My own bias is I that I think that era - from early 1990s to about 2012 - were some of the best Kubotas built...I have one from 2007. It is hard to find good low hour tractors from that era. It won't last long. The turf tires are a bonus & were and expensive addition.

I do wish it had the optional power steering, but because it was optional it can be added. You definitely want PS with a loader.

I'd get it, use it, and a year from now begin the search for a larger tractor. You won't lose any money on that one. It will get you in the game and do decent work while you learn the what features work best for you on your land.

I had a B8200, and it is a solid machine. I would think the backhoe, loader, 4wd, and hours make that a good value at $12.5k.

With a backhoe! Let me know where it is so I can buy it. You couldn't kill that tractor. it's made with real steel, before they started cheapening everything up.

Oh well, the turf tires would have turned me off anyway. Turf tires are for mowing lawns. No benefit at all for loader work or backhoe work or ground clearing. If you need traction, you don't want turf tires.

If it did not have power steering you would end up hating it

I converted my b8200 from manual to power steering. I made a big thread on it and documented everything. Great tractor.

However, 3 months ago, a friend bought a b9200 TLB with r4's for $9500. I have R4's front only on my b8200. I have a b7200 with all turf's, and I often struggle for traction.

The Kubota B8200 HST 4x4 with 452 hours, front bucket, backhoe, and turf tires for $12,500 sounds like a solid deal, especially given its low hours. If it's indeed manual steering, that's something to consider—hydrostatic steering would be more convenient. Since you have a machine shop, you're well-equipped for any potential repairs or rebuilds, so that’s a plus. Just make sure to check the condition of the tires, hydraulic system, and the general mechanical health of the tractor before finalizing the purchase.
Those who want to examine the detailed features of the Kubota B8200 will find the correct information in the link below.

Im a bit late here but i own a b8200 with loader and backhoe and manual steering and the steering is not bad AT ALL. Yes it loads up with a full bucket load but the 1000lb backhoe hanging off the back makes the manual steering effort WAY less than you might guess. Now, if you take off the backhoe and max out the loader you're going to have the normal ****ty steering experience, but as long as the backhoe is on, the manual steering is not a problem at all.

I have owned a b8200 for a few years. It's really just a step up from a garden tractor. It's to light to do real ground engagement work. Also the whole steering box is about the size of my fist. Mine was a newer box and one turn on the pavement and the box broke appart.

Also the hour meters on these are only 3 digits so is it 1452hr, 2452hr, 3452hr or more? It surely isnt 0452hr because that unit does look painted. The wear on the pedals and floor boards can tell you alot. Prety much every kubota of this era has a 3digit hour meter and all claim to be under 1,000hr

I'm sorry $12k is not a good deal. $12k is prob about that that unit sold for brand new.

Does yours have a loader and backhoe on it? Mine with both, and loaded rear tires, can push and pull real hard and leave ruts everywhere you go. If you're pulling 3pt implements (no backhoe) and also dont have a loader and also don't have filled tires or, worst case, dont have 4wd, i can see it having a pretty low limit on 3pt pulling power. But add weight to it and it will do what you need. (y)

Loader yes. It originally didnt have loaded rear tires but it was so terrible the loader was nearly unusable with out liquid filling the rear tires.

I mean it's better than a garden tractor but we are talking about a $12k machine here that's nearly 35yrs old..I would expect it to be a bit better. It's just to small, light duty and 19hp isnt that much.

That's fair, it sounds like you just need a bigger machine for the things you want to do. Im a real big fan of the one I have, but i don't do 3pt or PTO work with it so the low HP doesnt affect me much, and with 4wd and low range i have not had any problems pushing or pulling. Unlike some small 'tractors' ive seen (like a 1025r lol) it will at least sit there and spin and dig all 4 tires down into the dirt if it cant push or pull something instead of stalling the engine, so that's something! :ROFLMAO:
