I found this forum and wanted to know if I am getting a good price of a Kubota B7800 with the 402 loader and 5ft brush cutter. The quoted me 16,700. This will be my first new tractor. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks Michael in MO.

Check the link on the top of this page for Carver Equipment.
He has a pricing page that will give you a good idea of price ranges of different Kubota models.

But keep in mind that prices vary a lot from place to place. Prices up here in New England are much higher than Carver's prices. I don't know how MO compares. And though Carver will sell tractors to people out of state, then ship them, they don't do that with Kubotas.

No dealer is allowed to do that with Kubota's, for good reason. We all had to sign new contracts requiring us to provide physical delivery of the tractor. I would think more manufacturers are going to follow suit as more dealers like corriher/carver pop up.

It's all about where franchises are located. It's smart business for the manfacturers.

By locally when/if possible. It's better for the economy and you'll have a better realtionship with the dealer when it comes to warranty or any service needed.

As the 'Bota dealer told me a tractor is an investment for 10 years or more and an extra $500 or $1000 for comfort/convenience amounts to nothing, which makes perfect sense. That's how I made the decision on going from a standard to hydro on my B7500, when I was trying to pinch pennies.

I agree ,but what to do when your local dealer is 2-3000$ higher

It always amazes me how easy it is for people to spend other people's money!

My daughter and her husband made an offer on a house last year, after a couple offer/counter offer sessions, they price came down to $1,000 difference.

When they withdrew the offer, the real estate agent could not stop saying "It's only a $1,000 more...just a thousand..."

Yes, just a $1,000, but that $1,000 wasn't coming out of the pocket of the person who was saying "just a thousand..."

That money (and more) would really have went into that agent's pocket had they upped thier offer and the sale had happened.

Same with the tractor...I am not saying that buying local is not a good idea. I did myself and it cost more and I realized it was costing more.

Still...it sure is easy to spend other people's money! Especially if some of it is going to end up in one's own pocket...

I can't see the same tractor/attachments being $2000 higher.
I can't even imagine that.

In fairness to your local dealer, I would price shop a 3 hour radius and ask them to match your best price. If they are worth their salt they should agree and thank you for keeping your business local. The cost of doing business and holding inventory can vary greatly, but thats not reason to drive away customers.. even if it means selling at cost. I would shop a 150 mile radius and ask the nearest local dealer who you like to match it.

I paid $16,400 for by B7800 with LA402 Loader and a woods 72" Finish mower delivered to by door from an out of state dealer which means that i did not have to pay sales tax on the purchase price. I bought the machine in early 2003 so i don't know if the prices have gone up any since then.

AS for buying from a local dealer i checked my local dealers price and he was $3000.00 dollars higher for the exact same machine. Figure in sales tax and i probably saved approx. $4000.00 over my local dealers price. You have to do what you think is best for you in terms of buying from a local dealer as compared to an out of state dealer. For me $3000.00 is a lot of money and buying the tractor from an out of state dealer was a no brainer.
