I would appreciate any help as I am new to tractors. B7000 wouldn't start after battery charging and a cable on the starter (I think) near base of engine ( cylindrical housing with rubber top under the exhaust) started smoking and was seriously overheating. Smelt it when starting normally but it got much worse when using jump leads. The tractor also keeps turning over and trying to start even when I stop turning the switch. Any ideas what is causing it. I think I need a new battery because even after a full charge it didn't have the strength to spin the engine very quickly. Thanks

Melting cables is a sign of too much current draw,
it's either due to a short, thats grounding out or,
a poor ground connection that need high current flow and isn't getting it,
usually the end of this ground will heat up.
It sounds like you may have a starter problem, if they sit too long without use,
they can build up rust etc inside, causing them to draw too much current,
check all the connections surrounding the starter, keep an eye on this,
don't leave your battery connected until you find the problem, you could find your machine
up in flames if you do.

My advice is buy a digital multimeter and learn how to troubleshoot by watching YouTube videos.
Or take it to someone that knows how to troubleshoot bad cables and connections .
Your battery had enough power to get the cable hot, so it is likely to be good.
