Recently while cleaning up some overgrown areas around a storage shed, I had some heavy gauge wire wrap around my drive shaft (actually it was a tomato cage - how it got in there is a true mystery). It took several hours of pulling and unraveling to get it out, but it is out. After removal of the wire and inspection of the shaft, there seems to be a small amount of turn out while the shaft is turning (engine running). Does any one know what the tolerance is for this? A machinist friend of mine says that it seems slight for a shaft of this lenght (estimated at 5 - 10 thousanths of an inch) and that the bearing in each shaft coupler will have some play to account for any misalignment between the engine and transmission. I just want to make sure that I don't do any long term damage to the machine by running it with a shaft that is out of true. Thanks for the info.
