where does the tach connect to on the trans ? I looked all around under my M9000 and cannot find it. I am no mechanic but have a little common sense .

Bump of an old thread with same subject.

My B21 tachometer / hour meter went on the fritz. It is mechanical and the indicator started bouncing rapidly. The needle broke off then the center part of the indicator fell off onto the bottom of the cluster.

My cable is good, I get rotation with the engine turning over. The mechanical mechanism seems to be a little stiff so I intend to lube it with lock oil (an old time locksmith sold me, does not gum up and is light and penetrating).

I can not figure out how the needle fit into the meter. It has a small almost pin sized axle that does not want to slide back into the meter. Does anyone know how the needle fits back into the meter? Obviously I would put the faceplate on, then insert the needle. But what holds it?

I do plan on gluing a toothpick or something onto the needle center but I do not know how the center part pits on! It does not seem yo me broken.

Can you turn the needle over and get a pic of the end of the shaft? I'm wondering if the center pin is actually broken off inside the needle?

It doesn’t look broken and since the needle sticks through the plate that shows the RPM, it has to be in two pieces.

Most needles I have seen are hollow, with the center driving pin, very fine, I can see a pin in his drive but can't ascertain how far down it is, I'm wondering if part of the drive pin is broken off inside the needle?

I took a pin and inserted it into the brass collar that the shift rides in and the meter end of that shaft ends just before it comes through the collar. The end of the needle does not look broken. I am not seeing a way to repair such a fine shaft (about the diameter of a paper clip). It is hard to get the camera to focus on the shaft end, but it is smooth feeling and looking. I have NO idea what would cause it to break which is what puzzles me.

The Messicks site appears to show the meter with needle with dial plate, so maybe it does not come apart and in some strange way the shaft broke. Makes no sense. I was thinking the dial plate was made to come off.

It's either my bad eyes, or the pic, but something funny about the end of the needle shaft. Get a good magnifying glass onto it.
