Have a 2012 Kubota 8540 and i wish like **** I had gotten the 9540 now. What is the difference between the 2. Where does the 10 hp come from. Kubota parts says the injector pump and injectors are both the same. Turbo? Pistons?

My guess would be timing and turning up the pump. :confused3: The few other things that I checked are the same between the 2 also.

What Brian said, I asked the salesman the same thing when I bought our M8540HDC. There are more options available on the 9540 such as the 24/24 transmission. The 9540 comes stock with bigger tires, but our dealer gets the same tires on the M8540. I was prepared to buy either and just went with the 8540 and have been happy with it.

believe mtviewranch is correct, same engine series, matter of injection, etc. out of curiosity, how are you feeling the lack of 10hp? on the pto? tripler is correct in noting the different tire sizes, but are interchangeable for both models. unless you are feeling the hp difference for a specific application, i wouldn't fret. they are exactly the same machines (and a BIG step up from the 7040 model as far as features), awesome ones at that. just enjoy the ride

I have a 16' breaking disc that I pull with the 8540 and 9000. Both will pull it but the 9000 pulls it much better. I figured 10 more hp would help greatly

If its the same engine could after warranty some adjustment say to pump or different injectors spray nozzle to give extra h.p.?

bet a search on that topic in the forum would turn up info, kubota is probably reluctant to give info as there are a number of models w/the same series engine. surprised to hear the 9000 pulls significantly better :confused3:

I've found very little on google. Wish I'd gotten the 9540 to start with. Hindsight

Not sure how the injection pumps on those models are controlled but our Tier 2 and Tier 3 offerings in several power ranges were software controlled. In other words I could flash new software into our 155 HP model and turn it into a 174 HP version. Of course there were machine differences. I could flash the higher HP software but it might result in a premature axle failure as it was not designed for that much power. In the old days it was tweak the injection pump but they generally resulted in over fueling - you put in a lot more fuel to get a little more power.

turbinesurgun when you say 16' breaking disc are talking about a heavy single or double offset disc? The breaking disc here, we call it a Bog Disc Harrow, is about 11' wide and weighs about 4000#. It's pulled with a 2wd CaseIH 5140 Maxxum and pulls it quite well but definitely runs some fuel through it. Actually I'm surprised a 8540 would pull a 16' breaker disc if it's something close to what we have here. Not just because of the HP but also the weight of the tractor.

It's not an offset it's a traditional disc 16 wide 24" blades. Both will pull it but would benefit from a little more power. I think I'm gonna talk to service dept this week and get them to check on timing differences in the 2. Yeah both of these have traditional injector pumps not computer controlled. I think the common rail kubotas start at 108hp
