Farmall 45 with Cab
I need some opinions and or input.
I have been looking to buy a Kubota L3940 HST with a Cab and FEL. I looked at what avalible in my area and Kubota was my choice. The dealer showed me a Case DX40 HST with a cab and loader and it's a nice tractor, the cab has more room. The Kubota has more options as far stall guard and the Plus HST. Now I don't know which tractor to go with. I'm most concerned about the extras on the Kubota working 20 years down the road. This tractor is going to be a one time thing and I don't what problems down the road. Any advice or thoughts?

Kubota is designed and manufactured very well. They have very few problems overall and even less with the transmissions. Unless you are getting a far better $$ deal with the Case, I would go with the Kubota.

I think the same could be said for all of the big three (Kubota, Case/NH, JD) mfg. I would look at what you like best about the two and which one is more comfortable for you.

Kubota's HST-plus transmission sure seems to be an ideal addition to their lineup. The DX40 has a rabbit/turtle switch located on the loader joystick that makes it convenient, but the DX40 lacks the auto sensing and link between the transmission and throttle. Those are advanced functions that leapfrog the Kubota into the lead in my opinion. I do not think you have to worry about the technology on a Kubota. They didn't come by their reputation by letting technology become obsolete.

Don't get me wrong. I love the DX40 and I think you will find it's quite a bit less than the L3940. If you are happy with the dealer, then what you can afford would be my determining factor. Both of those tractors are nice.

Are you aware that New Holland will offer a CVT transmission sometime in 2009? I'm excited about that and can't wait to see how that tractor works. For now though, that Kubota L3940 sure looks sweet.:)

I had forgotten about that CVT. Should have many of the HST advantages, with fewer disadvantages. The tech looks pretty robust too.

(Not that I would pay $$ to be a guinea pig! - But I'd take one to evaluate...)

I stopped at the dealer again and put the two tractors side by side. They each have their own feathers that I like. The Case is about $3,000 more. The Case seems to have more standard options and the Kubota has the HGT Plus trans. I'm still trying to pick. Right now I'm leaning to the Kubota.

I'm shocked! I'm a Case/NH guy and I'm completely on the Kubota side on this. Of course, I have neither driven the Kubota nor looked at options and accessories, but $3000 can buy a bunch of goodies for that orange baby.

Jim,

That's a good point. That extra money would be good for addons to the Kubota.

I can't believe the Case is higher either, when i was looking for tractors the only way I could get a Grand L Kubota cheaper than my Case DX 40 was to get a less horse power Kubota. I think the Kubota has a lot more electronics than the Case. Not saying a lot of electronics is good when problems arise but the electronics in the HST pedal and transmission sure are smooth.

Going on one year with a L3940 and BH90. 158 hours this year since new. I farm and have all red combines and tractors with a few green ones mixed in. When someone asks how I like it I swear to them it will be the last tractor to leave the farm:) Have a set of forks and a root grapple for brush. I looked at the DX and have demoed them and also looked at JD and Kioti. The Kubota weights a lot more than the DX if I remember right. Only thing I wish I would have gotten the L854 loader for a bit more capacity with the forks. This one is open/no cab but it has a lot less plastic panels like the DX does around the operators station for shift levers etc. They just don't last. They are all steel on the Kubota along with the hood and side panels.

Or you could go with the 3940 in the TBN classified's for $11,000 including a backhoe. ???

The Case/NH is a good bit more, not quite a $3000 dollar spread at dealer cost... but significantly more. If you really like that though its usually possible to get one at the same cost as a Kubota towards the end of month's and quaters where they have sales goals to meet.
