Just hooked up the grapple the first time this spring and noticed the 3rd function isn't opening. It'll close just fine (the lower button), but when pressing the upper button...nothing. I checked the connections, and did a voltage test while pressing the upper botton and am not getting any signal. I can't figure out how to open up the joystick portion to see if there is a loose connection around the button area. Does the plastic piece that houses the buttons have a screw at the top as well (under the plug?) or does it just snap open once you remove the bottom screws?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree and should be looking elsewhere? This always seems to happen on a weekend where you can't get a hold of the dealer and there is work to be done!

To check the solenoid, just take two test leads from the battery and energize the solenoid. If the engine is running and you do this, it might cause the solenoid to click and activate, or if you now use the curl lever, the grapple may work. .

On some third functions, if no power is applied to the third function, the curl works. If power is applied, the solenoid activates to allow the grapple to work using the curl lever.

Do you have an electrical schematic of the third function kit?

You can also check resistance on the solenoid coils, with all power off.

Also, some solenoids have a manual mode to activate the valve.
