I am in need of advice regarding my glow plugs. They quit working completely and after changing out the relay with no success I tested the back of the ignition switch. The center post is always hot, one other post energizes when I turn the switch to the on position. There are two other wires coming from the back of the switch that I believe are supposed to send power to the glow plug relay and neither energize at anytime. My question is should they energize and can this be my glow plug problem.

What happens when you turn the switch 'backwards' from "Off" ?

Edit: What are the colour codes of the wires on the switch and the colour codes of the wires on the relay??

The switch does not turn backwards.
Wires are center wire is solid red
outer wires are black with red stripe, red with white stripe, and black with white stripe.

Two smaller wires are one black with white and other red with black
Two larger wires, black with white and other solid red.

Without a schematic diagram I'm guessing - The two larger wires will carry current from battery and to the Glow-Plug buss bar. So confirm you see one of the colours connected to one end of the GP bar.

It is likely the smaller Black/white wire goes to the ignition switch Bl/W.

You can check for continuity on that wire?

Since you say the switch doesn't go backwards, there may be a Timer module somewhere to control the GP's.

You need a schematic from here.

But there is no power from the switch on either of these wires, that is why I thought the problem likely the switch. I believe there may be a timer involved but without power coming from the back of the switch I think anything downstream from the switch is dead.

I have continuity and the wire to the buss bar is the black with white.

You could be right. A schematic is your best friend and he's buddies with your DMM.

Checked your fuses??

Yes on the fuses. Thanks for trying, I don't feel like such a fool not figuring this out now!!

Some Orange experts will no doubt chime-in. Just mid-morning down here so I'm having a coffee break.
Best of luck.
