Greetings, I have a Kohler Magnum 18 hp ,I want to install on a homemade bandmill, I had it running fine, now however there is gas in the crankcase. I haven't had a chance, freezing outside, to check ether the float in the carb..........or the fuelpump.

The fuel pump look like the old mechanical pumps, like on a 36 Ford.

Have you any experience with the Kohler 18 or 20hp. The fuel pump must have a diaphragm~ if it fails ith should leak into the crankcase?

What's your thought?

Underneath the carb bowl there's s fuel shut off solenoid. There's a small wire leading to it.
It's supposed to close the fuel supply as the ignition is turned off. That's where your problem lies.
There's my two cents, anyway.
Used to happen to my old Crushman Truckster.

Cheers,

Max

Thanks Max for your two cents, I'll check to see if this carb has that solenoid. I do have a valve that I close when I shut it down, but it may have gotten in a bit at a time.

I drained the oil today, It came out like water there was so much petrol in the oil.

Hi, I pulled the carb, there was no SHUT OFF SOLENOID.I cleaned the carb inside, did not have a carb kit. Ran the engine today want to see if the petro runs through the carb and and through the rings.

It's cold, cold here had to come in, get back on it tomorrow.

The float must be stuck up.

My guess would be the float is sinking causing the needle valve to be open . Some floats ( hollow ones get a hole in them) some just become water logged ( fuel logged ? ) in either case it will flood the engine. But then again there may be another problem like the fuel pump the Richard mentioned hole in the diaphragm.

I not here to preach but my uncle blew a crankcase off of a Cherokee because of this, I agree with the float flood. I've seen them with holes on them especially when they are plastic
