Mowing Kohler K301

I have an Allis Chalmer lawn tractor with a Kohler K301 engine. It's run great for years but now runs on kangaroo juice.....the plug is very black. Cleaned the carb and set the points to 20thou and fitted a new plug. It sounds like fuel problems but any body any ideas.

I recommend doing a static points adjustment (using the timing mark on the flywheel) and adjusting the valves while you're there. The .020 gap rarely puts it in just the right spot. If none of that makes a difference, then your coil is probably on the way out.
