Kohler engine starter

I have a kohler courage 22 HP engine that the starter will not turnover. Battery charged - bypassed the soleind still will not crank removed starter - it spins freely and the maginets are in position. Does this engine have a compression release or do I have a bad starter?

did you double check the battery?

Auto Zone or one of the other supply house can check the starter for you. I would try to spin or turn the engine while you have the starter off. The engine could be seized. Removing the spark plugs will make turn the engine by hand easier. Try turning the engine forward and backward. This will tell you if something is locking the engine up.

I'm by no means an engine expert and I'm just guessing that your engine is on a riding mower. I had a similar problem with my Kohler engine on my mower only to find out it was a faulty safety switch under the seat.
