Kohler Command 25HP Running lean

I have a Kohler Command 25HP Vert shaft with a nikki carb. I have cleaned the carb thoroughly.and I still seem to be running lean.
All started when tractor ran out of fuel. Re fueled and cut the rest of the yard but engine started rolling at idle and at full speed without load.
Parked tractor and left for a while. Came back to a loaded up Intake manifold, with gas, and a big puddle on drive.
Needle stuck I guess.float seems ok also. Cleaned carb afterwards and verified the fuel shut off solenoid was operating.
Now it seems way lean, runs crappy ,and smooths out with some choke.
Any Suggestions?

Sounds like you have pulled debris into your fuel line/carb.Pull fuel line and clean, pull carb and disassemble and clean. Pay attention to internal carb passages. During reassembly verify the float level is correct.

There may be a restriction at the pick-up in the tank. Try using low pressure air to blow back from the fuel pump into the fuel tank. Also, check the fuel filter. + what mostly-gas said.
