There is no normal. The only 'normal' thing is the total life of the element in the SCR unit. Not sure about that brand but Kubota states the total life of the element (before cleaning / replacement is 2500 regens. After that, the accumulated ash content in the cannister causes the ECM to derate then engine until the element is either cleaned or renewed.

Wow. Never heard the 2500 figure before. So far my only Tier 4 is averaging 40 hours between regens so if it last 2500 regens x 40 hours = the engine and rest of the tractor will wear out way before the SCR needs attention. I hope that’s accurate.

Most tractor DOC/DPF emissions systems appear to last between 2500-3000hrs before sufficient ash accumulates in the DPF requiring a manual regen. DO NOT throw away the DPF and buy a new one. They are extremely expensive.

Typically you remove the DPF and ship it to a diesel shop that specializes in a manual regen. They will first soak it in solvents, then power wash it, followed up by a 24 hour baking at very high temperatures, that effectively burn out the ash from your ceramic filters inside the DPF. After a final power washing, they ship the DPF back to you with a certificate indicating, for example they cleaned out 92% of the ash.

I know what you mean, but "high rpm" is relative. Running at 2500 rpm is considered excessive to my neighbor, but my PTO 540 is @2500 rpm. For those with emission systems, instead of driving back to the barn at 1500rpm, do it at 1900rpm, and your emission system will have less problems over time.

In contrast up here in Minnesota where it is considerably cooler much of the year, my Kioti NX6010 with a warmer, 185 degree thermostat is regenerating about every 20-30 hours doing loader work.

But how do you guys with Tier 4 turbo-charged engines reconcile the requirement for extended warm-up times at low rpm, with increasing the frequency of regens? Or is that just "the cost of doing business"?

Thank you Eric - great video. That's an education for me here at 27 degrees South (just south of the Tropic of Capricorn).

With summer on the way, all my tractor activities for the next 6 months (slashing/mowing, and spraying) will have the aircon cranked up to full cool!

That says if you don't warm up the engine after you start it you can damage it, and then the warning says if you do that, you'll damage the engine. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

My emissions systems have no issue because I have none.... I'm T3 all the way.
