Kioti RT2560R tiller tine turn until engaged in the dirt

I was going over the ground a third time when all of a sudden the tines quit turning. I can turn them by hand, turn them by turning the PTO shaft, and they turn when the PTO is engaged but when I lower the tiller in the dirt they don't turn. The soil is rocky and I have turned up a few. The tiller is new, only used about 8 hours over three years. Any suggestions?

Good day and welcome to forum. Does the tiller have a slip clutch? If the pto shaft is turning when tines are not, the clutch needs to be tightened up as it is slipping. If you have a manual, it should give you directions on how to set the clutch properly. Hope that helps.

Check the shaft going to the gear box on the end there is a washer and snap ring . Mine the snap ring came off and the shaft slid out. There was a problem with the snap ring edge being beveled that let the snap ring pop out

Agree with checking the slip clutch. If its a shear pin PTO shaft, it may still be able to "grab" enough with a broken pin to turn the tines in the air, but would begin slipping with any load on it. If you find no problems with the PTO shaft, the gear box would be the next logical place to look. Tillers aren't too complicated generally. Tractor to pto shaft to gearbox to output shaft with the tines on it. Problem hasn't got many places to hide! Good luck!

Agree with the slip clutch as well. Your tiller appears to be a reverse tine tiller, and Kioti has it listed as having a slip clutch. It's a bit odd that it would work for 2 passes and then quit on the third though.

Does everything stop when the tines hit the ground? Meaning, does the PTO shaft continue to turn?
