kioti lb1714 lightning bolt on dash

just picked up a 1990 lb1714 in decent shape for year but there is a red lighting bolt on dash every so often driving me nuts what the heck is it? old unit so not allot of fancy stuff on it, the light comes and goes at will doesn't matter rpm, temp, run time etc..

Probably something wrong with the alternator.

is there an after market or maybe a different alternator "a more common" that people use that aren't $150

Did you check the alt belt to see if its loose?

If the belt isn't slipping it could be that the brushes are worn down and aren't making good contact. They should be available, but sussing out the right part number to search for would be the problem. Matching them at a shop that deals with auto electrics would be the best option, I'd imagine.
Whenever I have something with a commutator apart, I chuck it in the lathe and burnish up the commutator; I have a roll of abrasive that was made for polishing VHS tape heads that makes them look like a new penny, but I would imagine a light touch of some 600 wet or dry would work pretty good.

belt tight, checked everything when light is on not charging when off it is, so.... just ordered the kubota one fingers crossed they had 2 available went with the cheap one

well it wasn't the alternator the new one does same thing also changed out regulator with my other parts tractor and it didn't help. put a drill to old alt and it puts out a good charge so now im confused more
