I am considering the purchase of the LB 1714. It has about 650 hours on it. It includes a 5' finish mower, 4' brush hog, 5' blade. Is there anything in particular I should look for on this model? I would appreciate any thoughts that you folks have. What is a reasonable price to pay?

I just bought a 1990 lb1714 gear drive with 98 hours on it. It has sat outside all of its life and is sun faded. One side panel is bent and the seat has a few tears in it. Hours appear to be right on it because you can see the tractor has been sitting. The previouse owner did not take care of the tractor like I would have, but the price was right on a low hour tractor. I paid $4,000.00

According to my Tractor value book, the price you paid is just about right. However, I doubt if the figures they quote reflect low hours like you have on your machine. Did you get anything besides the baseline tractor? Loader? Any other attachments?

Sun bleached paint is no problem. Click on my name and take a look at my thread "Come & see what a little paint can do". Just use some brake cleaner spray to chase off the grease & grime, lightly sand, mask off the labels & name stickers and go to town. Be sure to post before & after pictures.

If I might suggest, even though the hours are low, change all the fluids & filters before you run it for any length of time. You'll be glad you did. Good luck with your machine.

We have used buffing compound to bring back color before.
It just depends on the damage.

I took your advice and changed all of the fluids. The hydraulic fluid looked great, but the engine oil was another story. It was very dirty, and I think I will change it again very soon. I used the tractor for about 6 hours this past weekend, and everything works great on the tractor.
I do have a few things that make me wonder if the hours are acurate. First, the engine oil looked really bad. Second, the front tires are a different brand than the rear. Third, the engine hour meter only logged about 3 hours in the 6 hours or more I ran it this weekend. (The third part seems to scream at me). The tractor shows no real wear points other than sitting outside. The pedals still have paint on them, and the clutch works as well as any brand new tractor. There is no smoke unless you are chugging up a hill in high gear. I still feel like it is a good tractor, and was a good buy, but it would be nice to know how many hours are really on the tractor.

DHAUG: The hour meter operates based on rpm's, and if you ran it for 6 hours at low rpm's it would not necessarily show an increase of 6 hours on the meter. The oil in a diesel tractor will always get blacker sooner than the oil in a gas engine. In general diesel is sootier than gas and it colors the oil faster, even if you change it sooner than recommended, it will still be black.

Running the tractor at recommended rpm for 540 finish mower the hour meter stuck on 100.0 for a little over an hour and a half before turning to 100.1. I guess the connection could be a little rusty from sitting outside. The oil looked like it had about 150 hours use on it, but could be the original oil (i guess but just as scary).
I am really suprised at how much power this little tractor has. I am using a 5' king cutter finish mower and cutting grass that is 8" tall. This thing feels like it would turn a 6' finish mower with no problem.

Back to the original post, I am really happy with my purchase. I am really suprised at how much power this little tractor has. I am using a 5' king cutter finish mower and cutting grass that is 8" tall in 5th gear. This thing feels like it would turn a 6' finish mower with no problem. Great little tractor with a nice solid feel that seems like it will run for years to come.

Hi DHAUG. Just to comment on your question, I've an LB1914 that has arround 250 hours (for sure, I bought it new). When I changed the engine oil at 50 hrs, it was pretty dark. The pedals are now showing wear evidence. It doesn't smoke, unless you stress it.

So, 98 hrs might be real.

I'll check if I have the same tire brand on four wheels.

I would really appreciate it if you would check the tire brand on your tractor. It would give me a little closure on what I think might be mis-represented hours. If the tires are different front to back, I would be able to beleive that the hours might be accurate and the hour meter is just sticking. It seems like the hour meter always sticks as the .0 comes up. Once it gets past the .0 it rolls on around without issue. Thanks for all the advice and help.

Dan, my hour meter plodded along when I got my machine and then all together stopped. I installed an aftermarket hour meter (from EBay) so I could perform maintenance at the prescribed hour intervals. It's pretty cheap to do and then you don't have to worry about the accuracy (or lack of) on your dash mounted meter.

Hopefully, when you changed your fluids, you did the filters as well.

You said you worked the machine for six hours over the weekend so you must have something on it. What attachments did you get with it? We love pictures!

I did not get any implements with the tractor, it is just a bare bones tractor that I was planning to use so I dont scratch up my John Deere while cleaning up some woods on my property. I had been looking for a kubota b7200, but I think this is the same tractor. This is my first gear drive tractor, and I think I kind of like the crudeness of it. My John Deere is a 3520 cab tractor and I almost like running the open station gear drive better. I am sure that will change, but the little Kioti seems so bullet proof. It really feels like it is well made and a tough little tractor.
Yes, I did change all of the filters, except the transmission filter. It is metal, so I just cleaned it with some gas and blew it out really good then re-assembled it. I dont have a manual for it, so I had to do my best guess (the capacities are on the bottom of the removable hood section) for all of the drains. It was not a bad job, and I enjoy maintaining equipment anyway. I will work on getting some pictures up, but I do not have any to post at this time.
If anyone has a manual for an lb1714, I would love to get a copy somehow.
thanks for all the input and words of confidence.

Did the hour meter you put on your Kioti replace the existing hour meter, or was it an additional hour meter?

The old one is part of the dashboard assembly and appears below the RPM gauge. That said, it's still there, but doesn't move anymore.

I installed a new meter about knee height below the dash. It's protected from the weather there as the section below the dash angles inward. I cannot see it while in the operators seat, but I really don't care as I usually check it before and after I use the machine. I've noticed that some of the new ones on EBay are digital. Personally, I prefer analog, but I'm way behind the times (although not as far as Egon :D)

Hi Dhaug. My LB1914 has different tyre brands rear and front. I cannot remember both names (Korean?) and if you want to know, you'll have to wait as I need to go out to check this and ... it's raining over here :)

I also noticed that the rubber on the gas pedal is worn out on one end, to the point you can see the metal below.

Please post pictures of your tractor, I've never seen an LB1714.

I have the manual for the 1914. I could make a copy for you but I don't know how similar are both tractors.

Pierre, there was one on EBay a couple of weeks ago. Pretty little machine. You can see it here:

Dan - are you in Kansas and is the machine listed above the one you bought? I'm thinking NO as the paint sure doesn't look faded. But, I noticed the front & rear tires look different. Curious!

I haven't located an owner / operator manual for the machine but you can get a parts manual from a couple of sources (~ $30). Here's the links:
Little Tractor & Equipment Company, Inc.
Kioti LB1714 Tractor Parts 4wd

If you really need the other manual, perhaps Kioti (main office in NC or any dealer) can help. I was able to get one from them for my LK3054.

Finally, without any attachments, what did you do with that machine for six hours over the weekend?

Thank you for the link! It look pretty similar to the LB1914. I guess that they are the same tractor, except the two HP's ...

The tractor you saw on ebay is the same tractor and the price you saw is what I paid. I have put a few more dollars in it and I think stating the $4000.00 price is about where I will end up after all maintenance is caught up and I fix the bent side up. the tractor does look good in those pictures, but it doesnt show quite as good in person.

I use the tractor with a woods 5 foot rear blade (a light one) and a king cutter 5 foot finish mower. I use the finish mower for trim work and in the woods to clear weeds and make a clearing.

I would really love to get a copy of your 1914 owners manual.... should I just put my fax no. here on the forum?

I will post pics very soon.

thanks that makes me feel a lot better to hear that these tractors may have had different tires on the front and rear.

Hi DHaug. Sorry for the late answer, I've been away for two weeks. Yes, I can scan the owner manual. However, this will take some time. So, don't be in a hurry too much. I can send scan to your e-mail address.

That would be great!! My email address is Dhaugrcf@aol.com

If you would put operators manual in the subject line I would be sure not to delete it.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!
