Just bought tractor used. Runs ok on flat ground without a load, but uphill or pulling a trailer load of manure it won't go forward or back unless you put it in very low gear. Engine keeps running but clutch doesn't engage unless you go into low gear and creep along. Do I need a new clutch? An adjustment to clutch pedal? Worse?

If the clutch has been running this way for any time at all its a safe bet it is worn away. If you ahve an inch or 1.5 of free travel on the clutch pedal before you feel the resistance of teh pressure plate springs ant the clutch will not engage than the clutch is definately toast. But if you dont have free play in the pedal, and can adjust the linkage so you do, you may find it will pull again, at least for a little while.
