My ignition switch has stopped killing the engine, I have to use the manual fuel cut off to kill the engine. What do I look for to correct the problem?

See if the tractor has a fuel shutoff solenoid.

Check for a blown fuse on the engine stop solenoid circuit first.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

The rotating ignition switch itself could have shifted/rotated internally so that the contacts do not 'line up' in the 'off' position.

There will be an electrical solenoid which is part of the injection pump to control the stopping of the engine.

Kioti has used two different engine stop strategies over the years on the same model of tractor.

One approach sees the solenoid retracted and held in the retracted position while the engine is running.

When the key switch is turned off, power is removed from the solenoid and a spring moves its plunger stopping fuel flow and the engine.

On this style you need to make certain the spring is unbroken and the plunger is retracting with the key on and extending with the key off.

The second approach is the reverse. The plunger in the solenoid is retracted all the time and is powered out to cut off the fuel.

This powering of the solenoid is only for a few seconds to give the engine time to stop. This is the timer that Eric is referring to which effects the stopping of the engine.

I have not been involved with Kioti's for some time but have in my files these photos of the two different styles of engine stop solenoids.

I think I have the operational details correct but others may have more to add.

Dave you listed both of the generation 2 stop solenoid, and it sounds like Tim may have generation 1 which was mounted on the side of the injection pump and when the key is turned off the stop timer powers the solenoid for 5 seconds which pulls a lever on the side of the pump to shut off the engine. This generation is the one with the backup manual kill knob.

Tim you will need to see if you have 12 volts to the solenoid to actuate the solenoid. Just keep it mind if the timer is working properly will only send power to the solenoid for 5 seconds after the key is shut off. If no power to solenoid then I would start looking at the timer.
