Kioti DK4510
I own a DK4510. The manual says the engine oil capacity for my engine is 2.4 gallons.
I am doing my first oil change.

After draining my engine oil (and changing the filter), I added back that amount (2.4gal).
After running the engine for 10 seconds, then for 5 min, (per the manual) and then checking the oil level, my dipstick indicates that I am way way overfilled.
I am now in the process of draining oil out, until i get the oil level down to the full mark.

What gives?
(new to forum, hope this is the right section)

Hi Wayne,
Where is Brunswick? Did you add 2.4 Imperial gallons when Kioti is calling for 2.4 American gallons?

Does it have a double belly pan with 2 drain plugs? Maybe you left some of the old oil in there.

Thanks for the reply. Indeed there are two plugs.
I opened both plugs and waited long enough for both to stop dripping..
This is a head scratcher for sure

I have found that what is printed in the book for capacity is just a general term. Have a stump grinder with a 35hp briggs that calls for 80 ounces. shows full with 64 ounces. Also have an Arctic Cat atv that shows 3.5 quarts, but that amount doesn't show in the oil side window. Requires 4 quarts to show full.

Thanks for the reply.
As an update to this post, I have since drained and refilled this tractor.
I added 1.6 gallons of oil (including a new filter) and now my dipstick registers almost full.
Very odd. that my manual is .8 gallons off.

Love to know what others have found.

[update]
My Kioti dealership is of the opinion that 6 quarts is more in line with their expectation. The nearly 10qts, as specified in the manual seems to be too much. As such, they are of the opinion that the manual is wrong.
I will be calling Kioti on Monday.

-Wayne.

Just got off the phone with Kioti. The manual is indeed wrong.

Engine Oil capacity for the DK4510 is 1.58 US Gallons.

A lot of manuals will give you the design capacity but tell you to use the dipstick as the measuring device and to fill till in the green, run, stop, let sit a few minutes check and top off.

I have run lots of engines somewhat over full and never looked back. Comments to the contrary say that if your oil is foaming you are too full. Never had foaming oil. On my equipment, especially small engines, that operate on 30 degree give or take banks, I always overfill for safety.
